The fur industry is launching Furmark, a global standard based on the highest animal welfare and environmental standards backed by a traceability scheme and underpinned by independent science and verification.

In this critical and challenging role, help the BFTA with the roll out of Furmark in the UK delivering a programme of engagement and public policy activities at the national, devolved and local government levels backed by high-quality research and evidence and in communicating the work and activities of Furmark and the industry.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage public policy activities and interventions including responding to government consultations, commissioning research and insight projects; analysing key industry data and trends
  • Monitor, analyse and respond appropriately to changes in the public policy and political environments at Westminster, the devolved nations and local government levels
  • Help organise and run events
  • Actively increase stakeholder engagement and support networks for the BFTA including by attending appropriate events
  • Work to generate public and media interest in the work of the BFTA, BFTA members and Furmark
  • Deliver a programme of engagement activities in the devolved nations
  • Deliver a programme of engagement activities at the local government level
  • Work with colleagues across Europe and globally in the roll out of Furmark
Person specification
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • A comprehensive understanding of the parliamentary and political processes at all levels of the UK political system
  • Knowledge of animal welfare, sustainability and environmental issues an advantage
  • The ability to translate complex policy documents
  • Experience of research techniques including data analysis, qualitative and quantative analysis preferred
  • Experience of working in political environments of Westminster, local government or the devolved nations 
  • The ability to build and develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of working with the media including print, broadcast and social media
  • Experience of producing high-quality, impactful written material including policy documents, government consultation responses, press releases etc
  • Political acumen
  • Flexible, positive and proactive approach and attitude
