Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Salary: £21,000-£26,000

Length of Contract:

Job Details

We’re searching for someone who wants to make a difference to the lives and life chances of schoolchildren across the North East of England.

Passionate about public policy and with the drive and determination to push forward projects that will have lasting impact, you will have a deep desire to bring decision makers together to shape and change education.

Schools North East has been at the forefront of campaigns which brought £24m funding to improve secondary school outcomes in the region as part of the Opportunity North East initiative; worked with Gatsby Foundation to secure the national careers benchmarks pilot in the North East; and, engaged the teaching community directly in shaping the Government’s new teacher recruitment and retention strategy to name but a few. The Early Careers Framework element of this strategy is being piloted here in the region ahead of other areas.

Our Policy Officer job is at the forefront of this work. It is also a diverse role that will give you a phenomenal opportunity to make a difference in areas such as the mental health of young people in schools and supporting schools across the region to actively engage in evidence-based learning and development.

You will also be in the ‘crow’s nest’ when it comes to horizon-scanning education policy. We support schools to stay on top of the policy agenda and to understand the implications to them and their pupils.

You will support the charity’s Directors to shape our policy positions. You will provide the ammunition for policy-based campaigns and make sure we are reaching the right stakeholders to ensure our voice is heard within the region and in Westminster.

Schools North East is the first, and only, regional schools network in the UK. Established and led by serving Head Teachers, we are the representative body for the North East’s 1,150 schools.
We are an inclusive network creating a unique culture of collaboration and mutual support, bringing the expertise of our members to benefit developments within our region. A registered charity and not-for-profit social enterprise, our income is re-invested in improving the education landscape in the North East.
