Are you interested in conducting research in humanitarian assistance, international development and foreign affairs?

Publish What You Fund is recruiting a Project Assistant to support our exciting research into how transparency can help improve humanitarian responses. We’re currently looking into the information needs of on-the-ground actors in protracted crises and how improved transparency, including through open data, can support better decision-making in this crucial area. The study has selected Iraq and Bangladesh as case studies, and will use findings from these settings to inform wider learning, as part of the transparency work stream of the Grand Bargain, co-convened by the Dutch Government and the World Bank.

This is a 12-month contract (possible extension depending on funding for other projects) full-time position, based in London and is open to candidates who have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking a variety of tasks, including desk research, data collection, stakeholder mapping, interviews and communications / administrative support for research into humanitarian assistance.
  • Contributing to wider data analysis and drafting for the reports, briefing notes, blogs and other communications products.
  • Producing briefings on specific countries, sectors or organisations when requested.
  • Keeping up to date with the work of academic and policy experts on aid, development finance, open data and transparency.
  • Advocating or otherwise disseminating our work to key audiences, including supporting with communications and other advocacy work.
  • Supporting the organisation with administrative tasks and/or contributing to fundraising efforts

Requirements

  • A knowledge of, or demonstrated interest in, humanitarian assistance, fragile states or international development. Qualified in a relevant subject to at least degree level or have significant working experience.
  • The ability to write well and present complex information and ideas in a compelling way to a wide range of audiences.
  • Literate in social media and IT, including updating and uploading information onto websites.
  • The ability to take initiative and manage, prioritise and deliver multiple diverse tasks to tight deadlines.
  • Good verbal communication skills when dealing with colleagues and external stakeholders.
