Job Details

Jim is looking for a full-time Parliamentary Assistant to form part of a small team in his busy Westminster office. The successful applicant will need to display excellent writing ability, be well-organised and hold very good interpersonal skills. Previous experience of working in Parliament is not required.

Duties will include:

  • Drafting accurate, timely and appropriate responses to constituents on policy enquiries on a range of local and national issues.
  • Dealing with complex casework from constituents, including logging cases, monitoring progress and ensuring all identified actions have been taken.
  • Ensuring enquiries are handled in a confidential manner which complies with current data protection rules.
  • Undertaking research and preparing briefings prior to meetings and events.
  • Attending advice surgeries as required.
  • Supporting Jim’s role on All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs).
  • Various administrative tasks to help with the day-to-day running of the office, which may include organising tours and booking PMQs tickets for constituents.

Key requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage your workload independently.
  • Strong organisational skills with an emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills, including use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good knowledge of the current political climate.
  • Sympathy to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
