The successful candidate will provide support within the international policy team and to help ensure that policy work in these areas informs, supports and assists the achievement of the NEU’s wider priorities and the NEU’s international strategy.

As a policy expert, they will be providing policy advice, guidance, campaign and project materials in strengthening and defending teachers’ trade union and human rights internationally and children’s rights to public education. In addition, the successful candidate will be representing the NEU at external events and with a range of stakeholders and partners including the Department for International Development (DfID), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), relevant NGOs and global solidarity organisations.

We are looking for someone with recent and relevant policy, research of campaigning experience, ideally in a trade union or membership organisation who has also proven knowledge of policy around education systems and trade unions globally, human rights and children’s right to public education.

They will also need to have highly developed literacy and numeracy skills, good analytical skills, and an ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including activists and members.

We offer good conditions including a commencing salary of £39,726 pa plus a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1,005, 33 days annual leave plus 4 days paid additional holiday entitlement as the NEU office closure days at Christmas and a final salary pension scheme. Salary, annual leave and office closure days will be pro-rata, for part-time applicants.
