Job Details

25 days per year minimum

Love London? Select the best people to protect it.

You love London. You live, work or study here. You know what it might take to police and protect its many diverse communities. That’s why we want you to join us in a paid, part-time role as a Community Assessor, where you’ll make the most of your life experience to help us recruit outstanding future officers.

Everyone who applies to be an officer at the Met must undergo a rigorous assessment. As part of our expert team, you’ll provide the specialist input we need to ensure we select the very best people. Ordinarily we need you for at least 25 days per year – more, if possible. We don’t mind which days they are, although some flexibility is essential, we assess 7 days a week. We are currently going through a recruitment drive, which means we are assessing a far higher volume of candidates than we usually would so we may ask you to commit to a higher number of days over the next few months than we would usually.

You’ll be working at one of our assessment centres alongside our team, evaluating candidate performance against a set of competences. Previous experience of assessing is great but if you haven’t done this sort of work before, that’s ok. We’ll provide you with all the training you need to carry out varying roles including assessing, facilitating, and overseeing the running an assessment centre. There will be a week-long training course which you’ll need to pass, but we’ll provide plenty of support to help you make the grade.

While training will be invaluable, it can’t replace your personal expertise: life experience, an appreciation of diversity issues and a clear, articulate way of speaking. You’ll be able to put forward your views with clarity and intelligence, and naturally, you’ll be as keen as we are to identify talent and potential.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.

Current and ex-police employees (of the Met and other UK constabularies) are not eligible for this role. Please be aware that you will need to be security cleared, which can be a lengthy process
