Job Title: Head of External Affairs

Working For: Renewable Energy Association UK, a client of Harris Hill

Location: London

Salary: £42,500

Job Details

Harris Hill is excited to be working with the Renewable Energy Association in its search for a new Head of External Affairs.

The REA was established in 2001 as a not-for-profit trade association representing British renewable energy producers and promoting the use of renewable energy in the UK. The REA helps its members build commercially and environmentally sustainable businesses whilst promoting clean tech and increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the UK’s electricity, heat, transport and green gas needs.

Reporting directly to the REA’s Chief Executive, the Head of External Affairs will hold a wide variety of responsibilities spanning parliamentary engagement, PR / media, network engagement and broader campaigning activity. The postholder will also play a key part in developing the REA’s 2020 strategy, working closely with other members of the Senior Management Team.

The REA membership is active across the whole spectrum of technologies and renewable energy applications, including biofuels, biomethane to grid (“green gas”), energy storage and electric vehicles. REA members range in size from major multi-nationals to sole traders; thematic areas include energy decentralisation, circular economy and responding to the wider climate emergency.

As such, the REA is looking for an external affairs professional with extensive experience across public affairs, PR / media and campaign planning. You’ll have demonstrable experience of developing and implementing communications / public affairs strategies and campaigns to achieve lobbying objectives, ideally in coalition with or in representation of membership organisations. You’ll also have excellent political instincts, with an understanding of the factors that motivate and influence political parties and corporate players in the renewable energy and clean technology sector.

This position can either be full time or part time, paying an annual salary of circa. £42,500. This is an influential position at the forefront of the renewable energy and clean technology industry during a crucial period of radical political and cultural change, and the need to tackle the climate emergency.
