The British High Commission (BHC) in Malta is part of a world-wide network, representing the United Kingdom’s (UK) political, economic and consular interests overseas.

Currently the High Commission seeks a Driver/Messenger for a part-time (25-hour week) contract to provide Messenger and Driver services to the British High Commission, specifically delivering mail by hand, purchasing items on behalf of Corporate Services and driving the High Commissioner or British High Commission staff for official meetings and engagements.

Main duties and Responsibilities

Messenger/Support Services:

Delivering mail as required by handPostal services eg: registered mailLiaising with Government Departments as necessary to process relevant documentation eg: Transport MaltaPayment of bills/invoices Make purchases on behalf of Corporate Services for use by the BHC, using the appropriate payment mechanismAd-hoc duties as requested by the Corporate Services Manager (CSM)

Driver:

Drive High Commissioner, Deputy and BHC Staff to official meetings/engagements as requested by Travel Booking Officer, ensuring that the correct protocol and safety guidelines are adhered too (training will be provided)Maintain the cleanliness of vehiclesEnsure that all vehicles are maintained as necessaryEnsure that vehicles are adequately fuelledRecord all journeys and provide records to CSM on a monthly basis. 

Terms and Conditions

This position is a fixed-term contract of 12 months with possibility of renewal. The Part-Time working hours are 25 per week, Monday till Friday from 12.30 to 17.30 although flexibility will be required to cover for main driver as required and also possibility of evening and weekend working. These working hours exclude breaks/lunch (minimum 15 min per day).

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance with a probation period of 3 months.
