'Youth Aware of Mental Health' (YAM) is a universal mental health promotion for young people, developed by interdisciplinary researchers in public mental health and psychiatry from the Karolinska Institute and Columbia University. The Centre has been commissioned by the UK Government's Department for Education to implement and evaluate the intervention in the UK. The Centre is overseeing the delivery of YAM to selected year 9 classes across selected secondary schools in England as part of the randomised controlled trial AWARE (Approaches for Wellbeing and Mental Health LiterAcy: Research in Education). Results of the evaluation will be reported back to the Department for Education.

We are recruiting for a number of post-holders to lead on delivering YAM to year 9 secondary school pupils in the spring term of 2020. Delivering the YAM programme will involve approaching sensitive topics such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts with young people, facilitating role plays, and exploring ways of supporting young people to reflect on and problem-solve emotionally charged situations and dilemmas.
