As Strategy and Policy Manager you will play a key role the development and delivery of the Council’s ambitions, working closely with the Cabinet, Council Leader, Chief Executive and other senior officers. You will lead on strategic priority projects and programmes, provide high quality policy and strategy advice, and develop new and exciting approaches to support the Council to meet the needs of our existing and future residents.

You will be expected to lead the development and delivery of strategically important projects and programmes, working with change, comms and digital colleagues across Corporate Development, as well as supporting senior leaders with policy requirements, especially at short notice.
We are introducing new ways of supporting services across Corporate Development, and so you will also be responsible for embed the new approach to Strategy and Policy in a way that allows council services to access the support they need from the team, in a highly efficient and effective way, utilising self-help tools, and prioritising resources on strategic priorities.

The successful applicant will have a positive, can-do attitude and approach to supporting the council to deliver their priorities.
You will have demonstrable experience of leadership and management skills – driving projects and programmes, leading through change, and managing a small but highly skilled team to maximise their talents and ambitions.
You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work creatively and positively to find solutions to problems. You will be resilient, highly motivated and able to work with agility in a pressurised political environment. You will be confident, open and outgoing in order to build lasting relationships across the Council and with external bodies.
You will have experience of working in a strategic or policy role, working with politicians and senior leaders. Research, analysis, interpretation and evaluation experience, as well as of writing reports and briefings to a high standard is also an advantage.
