Job Details

In a world with more information than ever it’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not. Bad information, whether used deliberately or accidentally, leads to bad choices and real harm to people and communities. That’s true for choices about money, democracy, and even health: this year the World Health Organisation declared vaccine hesitancy one of the top ten threats to global health.

This is an opportunity for a researcher to play a pivotal role in tackling the causes and consequences of bad information by helping fact checkers worldwide to understand, use, and start to improve the evidence base around our work. You will engage with a wide range of subjects, disciplines, and methods, and your work will have significant real-world impact.

You will work with our Research Manager and international colleagues to produce a series of briefings on this evidence base aimed both at providing direct practical benefits to help fact checkers become more effective, and at understanding the current state of the evidence and its gaps to inform future research programmes. You will be discovering, assessing, explaining, and eventually building on ground-breaking research about how information flows; how people process it; how powerful people and institutions respond to external challenge; and what kinds of interventions can help fight the causes and consequences of bad information.

Understanding and increasing our effectiveness is a critical part of Full Fact’s plans. Building on these briefings, we’re looking for someone who will be able to propose, design, and do specific research and evaluation to support our editorial, communications, web, and technology teams—you might end up helping with message testing our communications or evaluating the impact of our content on our audiences.
