Open Europe is a non-partisan and independent policy think tank, providing an intellectual framework for thinking about Britain’s new relationship with the European Union and its role in the world.

Details

As a policy intern, you will work with the research team, contributing to daily press summaries, forthcoming research publications, and rapid response blogs. From time to time, this may include writing for external publications. You may also be asked to assist with organising events or to provide briefings for other team members in preparation for meetings. The role also involves media monitoring.

Tasks include

  • Background research to assist our policy team;
  • Drafting written work, ranging from short blogs to longer research projects;
  • Assisting with Open Europe’s social media coverage of important political and policy events, such as European Council summits, parliamentary debates, Select Committee sessions, and speeches by leading politicians;
  • Monitoring European media relevant to the work of Open Europe and compiling daily press summaries;
  • Accompanying team members to meetings and events;
  • Logistical support for events planning.

Requirements

  • You should have or expect to gain a first or 2:1. Applications from all subjects are welcome, but candidates with a background in British politics, European politics and economic policy are preferred. We are also interested in candidates with knowledge of customs, trade and regulatory policy.
  • You must be able to demonstrate strong research skills and have excellent written English.
  • Proficiency in at least one non-English European language is desirable.
