The British Horseracing Authority is the governing and regulatory body for horse racing in Great Britain. It is the BHA’s role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring that the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse. The BHA leads on public affairs and Government relations on behalf of the sport following an agreed industry strategy, set and monitored by an industry-wide Public Affairs group.

We are currently looking for a Public Affairs Executive to support the delivery of British Racing’s agreed public affairs strategy to Government, EU institutions, Parliamentarians (including Devolved Assemblies) and other key political and Government stakeholders across a broad range of challenging policy issues, with the aim of broadening political understanding and support for the country’s second largest sport.

Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs, and as part of the BHA’s Communications and Corporate Affairs team, the role will require you to meet with policymakers across the political spectrum, demonstrate your versatility and excellent people skills to cultivate effective relationships, and work closely with stakeholders across British racing to develop strategies for engagement with political representatives and external audiences.

The role will also involve you working on policy development on key issues affecting the British racing industry across matters including, but not limited to, its funding; reputational matters around horse welfare and gambling; the implications of Brexit and supporting the execution of policy objectives across British racing with political stakeholders.
