Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, is recruiting for a Senior Communications Officer for her constituency and parliamentary work, and for her work as party spokesperson on climate change as well as justice and equalities.

This is an exciting and varied role for a proactive communications professional with excellent writing and social media skills, a flair for political messaging and experience delivering issues-based campaigns. Creative and collaborative, you will have the drive to achieve results. This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a progressive politician and to effect real change in people’s lives.

The job will be based in Bath with regular travel to Westminster.

1. Digital:

Responsible for creating and updating the MP’s Facebook, Twitter and website (Nation Builder) content. Planning social media diaries, identifying social media opportunities. Managing a social media advertising budget, creating Facebook adverts and executing through Ads Manager, and regularly reporting the results based on key performance indicators. Creating organic, engaging content through video editing and graphic design. Sending out regular email communications from the MP.

Skills and Experience:
Track record in managing all aspects -including technical knowledge of Twitter, Facebook and Website management- of a social media campaign, from generating content to producing management reports.

2. Press:

Seizing advantage of press opportunities, both proactively and reactively. Building and maintaining relationships with journalists and mapping out key press stakeholders. Writing and distributing press releases, signing off quotes and other copy on behalf of Wera, writing op-eds and monitoring/reporting coverage.

Skills and Experience:
Track record of building effective media strategies, managing relationships with journalists, and delivering press coverage. Excellent writing skills, particularly in the areas of social justice and climate action. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport.

3. Campaigning:

Driving all communications for local and national campaigns led by Wera, using all the digital and press tools above, as well as traditional physical campaign tactics.

Employment by an MP is subject to the rules and contracts of IPSA. The job title is: Senior Communications Officer.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
