Just for Kids Law is a charity (No. 1121638). Our mission is to work with and for children and young people to hold those with power to account and fight for wider reform. We do this by providing legal representation and advice, direct advocacy and support, and through strategic litigation, campaigning and equipping others to work for children’s rights. JfKL’s vision is for all children and young people in the UK to have their legal rights and entitlements respected and promoted, and their voices heard and valued.

We are recruiting for a Policy Officer (Housing and Social Care) to join our small but influential Policy and Public Affairs Directorate, which also includes the Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) Using a child rights framework and evidence from the organisation’s direct practice, the Directorate undertakes influential lobbying work at a domestic and international level to ensure children’s rights are fully respected.

The successful candidate will have some experience of working on relevant policy issues relating to children and young people’s social care and/or housing. They will have a good understanding of the policy making process, how to influence decision makers at both a national and local level and how to work with young people affected by the issues to campaign for change.

They will be extremely motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Policy and Public Affairs Manager (Child Rights Monitoring and Implementation) , the post holder will also support our child rights monitoring work, including contributing to reports submitted to UN human rights treaty monitoring mechanisms.

Contract term: Permanent
Hours: 28 hours (4 days)
Pension: 5% per matching following probation. 4% matching during probation
Leave: A full time member of staff has 30 days annual leave which includes 3 days to be taken at Christmas in addition to bank holidays (usually 8)
Probation period: 6 months
Salary: Payment is made by electronic transfer on or shortly before the 28th of each calendar month covering payment for that same calendar month.
