Job Details

Fixed-term (12 months)

NCVO is changing. Under the leadership of our new CEO, and with a strategic review about to start, we are building an agenda for the future so we can lead the voluntary sector and volunteering, through the next decade. In a fast-changing world, we think that charities and volunteering will be more important than ever.

As Director of Public Policy and Volunteering, you will play a key role in driving change at NCVO over the coming year. As part of our Senior Management Team you will take lead responsibility at NCVO for shaping the external environment for charities and volunteering, as well as contributing to the leadership of NCVO more broadly.

You are lead director for volunteering practice and development, supported by volunteer management expertise across the organisation. You will draw upon sector-leading research, combined with the knowledge and experience of over 14,500 members, to help you identify trends and emerging issues for policy and practice. Under your direction, our policy and communications teams will set out the issues facing charities and the volunteering community, identifying solutions and influencing external stakeholders. In this high-profile public facing role, you will be an outstanding advocate for charities and volunteering.

In a period of deep and extensive change in our country, you will also help NCVO to change as we undertake our own strategic review. You are comfortable with change, and able to engage with stakeholders at all levels, and from all backgrounds. We are already midway through our own digital transformation, so you will already work with digital tools and communications. We’re changing how we work in other ways too, and you’ll bring a strong focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as a collaborative approach that sees NCVO as part of a wider network for change.

NCVO’s strategic review is the start of what is likely to be a period of change for us, potentially including changes to our leadership team, so this post is being offered as a fixed-term contract to cover the review period.

NCVO is fully committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in our sector. We want this to be reflected in the diversity of the people who work for us and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and identities.
