Nusrat Ghani, Member of Parliament for Wealden, is looking to appoint a hard-working, enthusiastic and experienced full time Parliamentary Assistant to work in her busy Parliamentary office.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Advising the Member of Parliament on policy issues
  • Managing the Member of Parliament’s inbox
  • Liaise with groups/personnel at Westminster, within the constituency and the general public on behalf of the Member as necessary
  • Monitor and manage media coverage and brief the MP accordingly
  • Respond to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, media, lobbyists and pressure groups
  • Research local, regional or national issues to support the MP’s work
  • Lead on projects as required
  • Draft press articles and statements
  • Closely monitor proceedings in Parliament
  • Assist in the constituency as required

Candidates should have the following skills, experience and qualities:

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • An ability to deal with constituents’ enquiries in a personable manner and to work well within a small team of colleagues
  • Strong communication skills and experience of providing high quality briefings and press releases/articles
  • Able to manage and prioritise own workload and use their own initiative
  • Previous Parliamentary or relevant experience is essential
  • Ability to manage projects

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
