Do you want to be part of a high level event at the cutting edge of urban policy in London?

We are looking for support staff to help us run The London Conference 2019 on Tuesday 5 November at The Royal Institution in Mayfair, London.

This is a freelance position, which is paid per hour at the London Living Wage.

You will have an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-level policy conference, which in the past has featured speakers such as London Mayors Sadiq Khan and Boris Johnson; former Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Greg Clark; international mayors Richard Daley and Alicia Glen; national political figures Michael Heseltine, Tessa Jowell and Vince Cable; and global urban experts Richard Florida and Benjamin Barber.

We will assign support staff to work for either the entire day or just the morning. Please indicate if you have a preference for full or half day. There may be opportunities for support staff to sit in on some of the conference sessions in quiet periods but this will be based on the requirements on the day.

Support staff session times are as follows:

Morning only: Start 08:00 – End 14:00 (six hours)

All day: Start 08:00 – End 17:00 (nine hours)

Roles and responsibilities might include:

Supporting registration and welcoming delegates.

  • Being in charge of the cloakroom.
  • Guiding speakers to and from the green room.
  • Ushering guests into the theatre and roaming microphones during Q&A sessions.
  • Assisting stage set up (e.g. chairs, refreshments and speaker podium).
  • Assisting in set up and take down of venue dressing.
  • Assisting delegates who have additional needs.
  • Other tasks that may be required.

We are looking for people who are friendly and approachable, particularly people who already have events experience.

Please note, constant communication will be essential throughout the event. Therefore, this role will require you to have a fully charged smartphone on the day with Whatsapp installed and ready to use.

Interview/Start Dates

Applications close at 9am on Monday 23 September. We will then contact a number of applicants to have a short phone interview on Thursday 26 September and will notify the final selected applicants by Thursday 3 October.
