Job Details

Why join ACF

ACF is the membership body for UK foundations and grant-making charities. Driven by a belief that foundations are a vital source for social good, our mission is to support them to be ambitious and effective in the way that they use their resources. We do this through the provision of policy and advocacy, research and information, and a wide-ranging programme of events and learning.

This is an exciting time to join the ACF team as we increase our own policy activity as well as support members in their policy and advocacy interests. We are also building on our use of digital technology and finding creative new ways of communicating with members and external stakeholders.

About the role

The Policy and Communications Intern will work closely with the Policy and Communications Manager and the Head of Policy to support the day-to-day running of the policy and communications functions. The role is varied in scope and the successful candidate will be willing and able to turn their hand to distinct tasks including (but not limited to): conducting background research, analysing reports, developing social media content, copywriting, proofreading, and arranging meetings. The intern will also support the Members’ Policy Forum, ACF’s initiative that aims to increase opportunities for foundations to engage in policy work, including by helping with events and managing communications.

The internship is an opportunity to gain experience in an active policy and communications environment with a small organisation. The intern will gain knowledge of issues affecting foundations, as well as the wider funding environment and the charity sector as a whole. There will be opportunities to meet with key stakeholders including members, charity sector bodies, and officials where appropriate.

About the person

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and be a willing team player. They will be able to pick up new concepts quickly and turn their hand to varied tasks. They will cope well under pressure and be able to meet deadlines. Most importantly, they will show a desire to learn and a genuine interest in policy and communications work.
