Lucy Allan MP is looking for a Senior Parliamentary Researcher to join her Westminster office. The role will be responsible for the full running of the Westminster office and helping to support her in Parliamentary activities focusing on, but not limited to, health, child sexual exploitation, children in care and new towns. This person must have significant experience or some responsibility of running an office in Parliament and would suit someone currently working for MP who is standing down.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Respond to enquiries from constituents, other politicians, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
  • Perform secretarial duties, such as managing the MP’s diary, making travel arrangements and taking minutes at meetings
  • Undertake all administrative duties, such as filing, ordering stationery, responding to correspondence and updating databases
  • Carry out research into local, regional, national and international issues as required, and ensure the politician is made aware of any relevant matters
  • Write press releases, newsletters and mailshots to promote the politician's work and update their website
  • Developing and maintaining current knowledge of bills, early day motions, legislation, upcoming parliamentary debates
  • Attend local and public events to assist the MP
  • Draft briefings, speeches and reports to prepare the MP for select committee meetings and debates in Parliament.
  • Responsibility for the APPG on New Towns and liaising with the secretariat

Skills and Qualifications:

You'll need to have:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good knowledge of the MPs interests and of the local area
  • Good organisational and research skills
  • The confidence to deal with senior politicians, the media, lobbyists, constituents, etc.
  • A highly professional manner and a proactive approach to work
  • Integrity and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality
  • Reliability and the ability to work well unsupervised
  • Strong IT skills

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
