We are currently looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Officer (Young Carers and Young Adult Carers). This role will increase and improve Carers Trust’s status at the forefront of public policy debate around young carers and young adult carers, and make sure that the interests of young carers and young adult carers, and the services that support them, are effectively represented to decision-makers, such as parliamentarians, senior staff in education, NHS and local authorities. Main duties include:

  • You will monitor parliamentary business, and horizon-scan for policy issues, about, and affecting, young carers and young adult carers. In response, you’ll be writing appropriate reactive responses (to include, but not limited to: internal and external briefings, consultation responses, social media and web posts, e-bulletin copy), and suggesting influencing opportunities linked to these for Carers Trust, as well as the local services we support
  • You’ll work across the England Directorate to secure:
  1. examples of arising, or emerging, issues affecting young carers, young adult carers and/or the services that support them
  2. practice examples and interventions which support young carers, young adult carers, from across The Carers Trust Network, and from Carers Trust’s projects and programmes
  3. young carers’ and young adult carers’ personal stories of what has helped, or hindered, their lives in relation to issues such as education and employment, their mental and physical health, and social care

The successful candidate will have experience of:

  • Working directly with decision-makers at either a national level and/or local level.
  • Analysing policy at a national or local level, formulating policy recommendations, and identifying associated influencing opportunities
  • Supporting stakeholders to be involved in policy or public affairs work.
  • Representing, or speaking on behalf of, a large organisation
