Working For: Westminster Forum Projects

Location: Bracknell

Salary: Competitive

Job Details

We are looking for an experienced copy editor who is able turn raw material produced by researchers with varying levels of writing ability into clear, engaging text for use in email marketing mailshots, web text and social media.

They must have the ability quickly to get their heads around a wide range of subject areas to a level where the copy they are producing is accurate and error-free, and consistent with house style. What we publish needs to employ terminology and emphasis that chimes with the target audience.

We are looking for someone with an eye for what sells. They need to be able to recognise and clearly present the elements that are likely to be most compelling for potential delegates at our conferences, recognising that we are asking them to spend their time, and often money, to attend. This sometimes means recognising opportunities which have been overlooked by the originators of the text being worked on, whilst resisting any temptations to over-sell.

As they work on the text the copy editor will also need to help with back-up sense-checking and fact-checking, as well as watching out for lapses in timeliness (we don’t want to see out-of-date references or information creeping in). If they have concerns they will query the team and their editorial manager.

In all of this, highly-developed internal communication skills are essential. They will need to make sure that colleagues at all levels across the company are consulted and kept informed of changes to copy or issues that might affect their work. Diplomacy is a key requirement.

Over time the copywriter will be expected to help develop our house style, and the look and layout of marketing materials.

The job requires creativity and the ability to process high volumes of material in a way that meets both quality standards and tight deadlines, and to be able to self-time manage and alert colleagues if they do fall behind.

This is an exciting role working for thriving organisation, and there are plenty of career growth opportunities for the right candidate. It’s full time, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm with an hour for lunch. It is based at our friendly offices in Bracknell, Berkshire with convenient road and travel links. There may also be occasional travel to Westminster, and work at our conferences preparing and running the smooth presentation of slides and videos at live events.
