Join us as a Public Affairs Manager, and you’ll help to protect and enhance our reputation by creating compelling communications that engage the right people in the right ways. As we begin to take our expansion plans to the next stage,you will have a vital role to play in winning the hearts and minds of everyone the project impacts.

The External Affairs team is looking for someone to support them maintain political support for Heathrow Expansion and advocate for Heathrow’s position on other important aviation issues. 

Your Role Will Involve:

  • Acting as a key member of the public affairs team and providing support to the Head of External Affairs, and Senior Managers, to implement an effective public affairs strategy, which builds pride and trust in Heathrow.
  • Maintaining political support for Heathrow expansion and working on high profile business as usual issues such as Carbon and Climate Change, Brexit, Surface Access and Industrial Relations.
  • Driving parliamentary activity and assisting the Head of External Affairs with maintaining excellent relationships with parliamentary stakeholders, especially among opposition parties, trade unions and Heathrow colleagues.
  • Contributing to the delivery of the wider External Affairs strategy plan, advising Executive Directors and Senior Directors, liaising with senior colleagues and consultants to deliver engagement plans, and supporting the wider Communications team.
  • To regularly brief senior colleagues on the political landscape and advise the business on the impact of government policies and actions/decisions.

These skills are essential:

  • Experience of working in the political arena – for example, with MPs and/or political parties - as well as a good network of contacts within public affairs
  • Excellent personal communication skills with the ability to present clearly to stakeholders
  • Delivery-focused approach to work and achieving excellence

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Previous communications experience, in-house or agency experience desired but not essential; public affairs, media, public relations and campaigns
  • A strong understanding of Heathrow's current strategic issues and priorities, including the expansion campaign and the wider aviation industry
