Job Details

Join us in making Lewisham a place of sanctuary for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

Lewisham is a borough with a proud history of supporting refugees and migrants. As part of our Corporate Strategy we are working towards becoming a Borough of Sanctuary, affirming our commitment to promoting and safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

This role will lead on this work corporately, helping services to develop in ways which improve accessibility, promote equality and take into account the needs of those seeking sanctuary in Lewisham. You will champion good practice and coordinate the improvements services identify, tracking their delivery and providing challenge and support to help drive organisational change.
You will be based in the team responsible for the Refugee Resettlement Programme, and will be directly involved in this work as a core element of Lewisham’s sanctuary commitments. You will also work closely with partners in the community and other public services in Lewisham, taking an active role in the Lewisham Migration Forum, a consortium of local providers who work with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants and coordinate the borough-wide work to make Lewisham a place of sanctuary.

If you want to be a practice leader, promoting equality and protecting the rights of those seeking sanctuary, join us at Lewisham where it’s one of our top priorities.

You’ll be a strategic thinker and an excellent communicator, able to build strong working relationships across a wide range of partners and stakeholders and to share ideas with them in a clear, accessible and engaging way. Your work will require you to stay up to date with legislation and policy, and to be a source of advice and guidance on refugee, asylum seeker and migrant issues. As the role is responsible for driving this programme across the organisation, you’ll also need to be able to manage projects, performance and competing priorities to keep delivery on track and ensure good governance.

Above all, you’ll be passionate about the rights and welfare of those seeking sanctuary in Lewisham and driven to improve the Council’s offer for these residents.

For an informal discussion, please contact Natasha Valladares, Housing Projects and New Supply Strategy manager, on 0208 314 6277.
