Onward is the most exciting new thinktank in Westminster. Our mission is to renew the centre right for the next generation by coming up with bold new ideas and reaching out to new groups of people.
Our team has worked in the highest levels of government and existing thinktanks and we have the networks and experience to turn ideas into practical, popular policies that work. Since we launched 18 months ago we have published 15 research reports, influenced numerous government policies, hosted 25 Cabinet Ministers, built a network of 1,000 young people and averaged 4 mentions in national media a week.
Our advisory board includes Lord Finkelstein (Chairman), Martyn Rose, Rachel Maclean MP, Gillian Keegan MP, Tom Tugendhat MP, John Lamont MP, Neil O'Brien MP, Lord O’Shaughnessy, Baroness Rock, Baroness Fall, Craig Elder, James Kanagasooriam, Sian Hansen and Nick Faith.
The Roles
We are looking for outstanding candidates to join Onward’s six-month internship programme starting in late-November or early December. There are two types of internship available.
1. Policy Internship
You will work closely with Onward’s research team to develop new ideas for the country’s greatest social and economic policy challenges. The role is suited to ambitious individuals looking to gain experience in social and economic policy and contribute to the political debate in Britain at a time when politics is profound and important ways.
You should ideally have:
- Relevant experience and a proven track record, at university or elsewhere
- Excellent writing and intermediate data analysis skills
- An affinity with Onward’s mission and values
Extra points for:
- Experience with Stata (or equivalent) and Tableau
2. Digital and Events Internship
You will help shape and deliver a high quality programme of engagement through social media, digital and live events. These will be fun, unconventional and build Onward’s brand among key audiences, especially younger voters and our growing business leaders network.
You should ideally have:
- Relevant experience and a proven track record of digital campaigning or social media
- Experience helping to manage events with high level stakeholders
- An affinity with Onward’s mission and values

- Ability to capture the zeitgeist for maximum reach and impact
