Job Details

Citizens Advice provides free, confidential and impartial advice to help people resolve their problems. No one else sees so many people with so many different kinds of problems, and that gives us a unique insight into the challenges people are facing today. With the right evidence, we can show big organisations – from companies right up to the government – how they can make things better for people.

Citizens Advice is looking for an experienced media relations specialist or journalist to join our fantastic news team. As a Senior Press Officer you will devise and deliver on strategies that generate high-impact media coverage on specific policy priorities. Subjects you’ll cover may include debt, welfare, consumer or housing issues. You’ll also have a particular area to lead on, with an Officer reporting to you.

Strategic and proactive, you’ll have good judgement and sound understanding of wider political, social and economic trends. You’ll be up to speed with the rapidly-changing media landscape, including around how people get their news from social media, and have a strong eye for a story. You’ll understand the value of our reputation and the importance of the trust people have in our brand. This is a great opportunity to work with teams across the charity, including local Citizens Advice across England and Wales, and really make a difference.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as BAME and disabled people are currently under-represented throughout Citizens Advice. We are a member of the race equality campaign at Business in the Community, the Prince’s responsible business network and are committed to improving employment opportunities for ethnic minorities across the UK. We also welcome applications from, LGB and Trans and non binary candidates.

We have made a positive commitment to employing disabled people and guarantee to interview all disabled candidates who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role as set out in role profiles.
