Summary
The Department for Work and Pensions is bringing forward the biggest changes to the welfare and pensions systems for a generation. We are looking for three Press Officers to join our high-performing and supportive team to help us communicate the changes to the public.
We are looking for people who have good judgement and a strong understanding of how the news cycle works.
We currently have two Press Officer roles available on our news desks, and one on our planning desk.
Job description
On a news desk, you will effectively manage breaking stories on behalf of Ministers and the Department, providing a timely, accurate and professional service to journalists.
On a planning desk, you will liaise with colleagues across the department, Ministerial offices and Number 10 to plan DWP Press Office media activity, delivering our strategic priorities.

Candidates for this role must meet the following essential criteria:
• Good judgment and understanding of how the news cycle works
• Excellent writing skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and reacting quickly and confidently to breaking issues
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
• Knowledge of media channels, including the role of digital media
• Experience of identifying media opportunities and planning stories
As well as the above, successful candidates will be:
• Passionate, cool-headed, dynamic, collaborative, persuasive, creative and confident.
