The role is part of the Public Affairs team within the Office of External Affairs and Communications. The role will report to the Director of Communications.

The role holder will head up a dynamic Public Affairs team in a fast-paced political environment and rapidly changing higher education landscape. They will lead the public affairs function and will deliver highly effective engagement with a range of key local, national and international political stakeholders and decision-makers.

Post-2019 general election, they will develop and deliver a stakeholder management and policy engagement strategy to influence the political, legislative and regulatory environment in order to ensure the best outcome for the University in line with its goals at local, regional, national and European levels. They will lead on managing the University’s reputation, risk and profile among political stakeholders, taking responsibility for both shaping the long-term policy, legislative and regulatory Higher Education landscape and responding to more immediate priorities.

They will provide strategic support and political analysis to the University leadership and will work with other parts of the Office of External Affairs and Communications to ensure consistent and effective communications.
