We are looking for someone to provide political and administrative support to the Conservative Group at Surrey County Council and its Leader. The Conservative Group is the majority party at the Council and consists of 58 Conservative Councillors.

You will support the Group in managing and co-ordinating its business, including administrative support and advice to Group meetings. This would include:

  • Ensuring that Group members are fully and promptly briefed.
  • Keeping abreast of national developments affecting local government, including new legislation and national party policies.
  • Drafting press releases, undertaking research, preparing briefings,
  • Providing an independent source of advice and support to ensure effective communications.

You must have a keen interest in the key issues facing local government today and a sound grasp of the Conservative Party's policies. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong IT skills and a flexible approach to pressures and problems, will be vital to this role.

You should also have experience of previous political activity and ideally be a member of the Conservative Party. Applications will, however, also be accepted from candidates with no political affiliation.

In line with legislation, this will be a fixed term contract until May 2021 when the next County Council elections are held.
