The Japan Local Government Centre (JLGC) is the London Office of Japan’s Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) a Japanese government-affiliated foundation that supports the international activities of local authorities in Japan through carrying out research, providing training opportunities, fostering people-to-people exchange with the JET Programme and other initiatives.

An opportunity has opened for a Research and Programmes Assistant in our office. In this new role, you will provide assistance across the office’s work, including delegation support, research, assistance for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme and so on. Degree-educated and a good communicator, you should possess the organisational skills to equip you to handle the varied work the office generates on behalf of its member authorities, as well as the personal skills that will enable you to work in an inter-cultural environment. Ideally, you will have an interest in Japan, cities and the European countries in which we work, if not language proficiency and experience in any or all of these.
