The ECIU, a climate change think tank, is seeking an experienced Media Officer to lead on a media engagement project, enabling broader, deeper understanding of climate change related issues among national and regional media.

Activities:

-Devise and produce proactive media engagement plans
-Write press releases, articles/blogs, letters, proof-read/write media statements
-Arrange for spokespeople to speak to the media and brief them as required
-Provide advice to senior members of staff on responses to the media
-Support editorial engagement with key newspapers and magazines, and organise briefing events for the media
-Following top-level engagement with media, run follow-up meetings with programme teams in both news and non-news strands
-Initiate targeted engagement with significant regional media
-Ensure integration of digital and social media alongside press and media campaigns
-Liaison with media during times of crisis management
-Routine media monitoring, reporting and evaluation
-Compiling/managing lists of media contacts
-Occasional out-of-hours or weekend work

Essential attributes:

-Degree qualified with a minimum of a 2.1 in a relevant degree or equivalent journalism qualification
-Strong understanding of broadcast and written media ideally from working in a similar role or from working in media
-Broad understanding of climate change science and policy issues and the low-carbon transition
-Excellent written and oral communication skills-
-Awareness of the media’s different audiences and sensitivity to how they are addressed
-Ability to work with range of stakeholders and manage projects to tight deadlines
