Job Details

 Job 1 - Chief of Staff

• Manage the office team, ensuring accurate personnel records are kept and notifying IPSA of contractual changes as necessary.

• Ensure a range of efficient secretarial and administrative support.

• Liaise with groups/personnel at Westminster, within the constituency and the general public on the Member’s behalf as necessary.

• Overall management of the Member’s diary commitments, delegating tasks to others as appropriate.

Job 2 - Office Manager

• Responsibility for managing all aspects of the budget, keeping the Member informed of all relevant financial matters.

• Ensure the office is fully equipped.

• Liaise with groups/personnel at Westminster, within the constituency and the general public on the Member’s behalf as necessary.

• Overall management of the Member’s diary commitments, delegating tasks to others as appropriate. 

Job 3 - Senior Caseworker

• Attend surgeries, tribunals and meetings as appropriate.

• Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters.

• Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate.

• Gather relevant information to resolve or progress cases.

• Develop knowledge in specialist areas.

• Ensure all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.

• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.

• Provide briefings for the MP.

• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups.

• Manage and progress portfolio of casework appropriately.

• Research local, regional or national issues to support the MPs' work.

• Manage projects.

• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues and is aware of trends.

Essential attributes:

• Experience of casework & dealing with the public.

• Good written & interpersonal skills.

• Ability to prioritise a workload, work independently and as part of a team.

• Commitment to Labour values.

• Trade union experience.

• Knowledge of local & national politics.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
