Apsana Begum MP is looking to appoint a Caseworker and a Communications Officer on fixed-term part-time contracts.

Applicants should have an interest in local & national politics, an awareness of the constituency & be sympathetic with the values of the Labour party.

Caseworker

Main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to constituents on casework issues, undertake research thoroughly and accurately, and draft correspondence, which reflects the Member’s views
  • Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure identified actions are taken
  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports
  • Organise and attend surgeries and other meetings as appropriate
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Publicise the Member’s duties on Facebook and Twitter
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with GDPR

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Previous experience of casework, ideally for an MP, as well as substantial experience working and dealing with the public 
  • Knowledge of immigration, housing and the benefit system
  • Clear and concise writing style and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Broad knowledge of communications

Desirable Skills

  • Relevant muliti-lingual or bi-lingual skills

Communications Officer

Main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Proactive and reactive media management, building successful relationships with the media, dealing with press enquiries and providing support ahead of media appearances
  • Lead on the Communication strategy
  • Write speeches, press releases and articles
  • Create content for use across social media and in campaigns
  • Update the MPs website with regular news stories, articles, petitions and photographs
  • Produce other ad hoc constituency communication materials as required

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Excellent written communications skills – must have experience of Press work, writing speeches and articles
  • Knowledge and understanding of media handling techniques including social media and other online media
  • Experience of website management and maintenance
  • Political awareness both nationally and locally, and sound political judgement
