Brendan Clarke-Smith, the Member of Parliament for Bassetlaw, is looking to recruit an efficient and well-organised professional to take on the role of Secretary in his Westminster office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of Mr Clarke-Smith’s office, so previous experience of working in Parliament is highly desired.
The role will principally involve:
Diary management
Assisting with arrangements for events (political and non political)
Handling the MP's expenses and budget scheme
Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public and MPs
Liaising with external suppliers when required regarding office supplies
Opening and dispatching mail
Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and ad-hoc admin duties
Responding to enquiries by telephone and email, passing on queries to other team members/MP as appropriate
Prospective candidates should possess the following qualities:
• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload
• Experience of working in Parliament
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
