The Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI) is the world’s oldest independent defence and security think tank. RUSI is a research-led institute, producing independent, practical and innovative analysis to address today’s complex challenges. RUSI is based in the heart of London.

The RUSI Leadership Centre offers highly interactive, bespoke executive education and training programmes for government officials, military officers, analysts and other defence and security practitioners at all levels of experience.
In March 2020 the Centre will run its annual training course for military officers from the State of Qatar. For these courses, RUSI is seeking to appoint a Course Assistant.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Course Assistant will work on the Strategic Defence Review Course run by the RUSI Leadership Centre for the Qatari Ministry of Defence.
Expected tasks and responsibilities include:
- working closely with the Course Director, the Senior Course Tutor and the Senior Course Assistant to ensure the successful delivery of the two courses;
- assisting the Senior Course Assistant with the management of the administrative and logistical aspects of the two courses, including – but not limited to – organisation of speakers, room bookings, catering, external visits;
- assisting with the running of exercises throughout the courses;
- assisting with the assessment process;
- functioning as a first point of call for course participants in need of pastoral care;
- supporting other tasks as requested.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
As the Course Assistant you will join our experienced Course Team. To be considered for the role, you should have the following qualifications/attributes:
- You have completed an undergraduate degree.
- You have an interest in military science and international relations or the politics of the Middle East and North Africa region.
- You are comfortable working in a dynamic team.
- You have strong organisational skills and are willing to take on responsibility for assigned tasks.
- You have well-developed interpersonal skills and feel comfortable engaging with people from various different cultural and professional backgrounds.

Interview/Start Dates

Applications should be submitted by 1730 (5.30pm). The appointment will be fixed term full-time from Monday 24 February to Wednesday 1 April 2020. Interviews will be held in the week of Monday 10 February 2020. Strong candidates may be selected for interview before 7 February.
