Felicity Buchan, the new Member of Parliament for Kensington, is looking to appoint a Constituency Communications Officer/Manager to work primarily from her Westminster office, as well as also across the constituency.

Successful candidates will have excellent written and oral communication, must be able to evidence strong organisational skills and initiative. Candidates will also be confident engaging with the constituency on a range of platforms, including social media, in order to progress community based projects.

While not essential, a keen interest in politics on a local and national level is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish a social media presence in the constituency, publicise surgeries and Parliamentary duties.
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments.
  • Manage the MP’s website content.
  • Develop knowledge in specialist areas and research local, regional or national issues to support Member's work.
  • Provide briefings for the MP.
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non- party-political matters).
  • Manage projects.
  • Attending surgeries and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Liaise with government agencies, voluntary sector, and others to resolve constituency matters.
  • Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate.
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.
  • General office administrative tasks including diary management.
  • Any other duties which may reasonably be required.
Desirable Skills
  • Clear and concise writing style for press and social media.
  • Ability to manage a high and varied workload under pressure.
  • Demonstrable initiative and project management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and online social media platforms. Willing to learn to use new software where necessary.
  • Previous experience of working for an MP or similar.
  • Knowledge of governmental and local organisational structures.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews may be offered to succesful candidates prior to the closing date, but with otherwise take place week beginning Monday 10th February. Looking for the right candidate to start immediately and an appointment may be made prior to the closing date.
