Job Title: Campaigns, Policy and Research Officer

Job Details

The post holder will:
• keep up to date with the latest political trends and housing and homelessness policy developments
• build and maintain a network of appropriate contacts internally and externally including civil servants, politicians and relevant decision-makers in order to achieve akt’s policy objectives
• support the development of compelling proposals for policy reform and solutions on housing and homelessness
• carry out and oversee research projects, including drafting proposals, arranging and conducting interviews, analyzing data, writing up research into report form and disseminating findings
• coordinate, project manage and evaluate all of akt’s campaigning efforts
• attend events as directed by and on behalf of akt

KEY TASKS:
• with the support and direction of the Assistant Director of Communications, develop and facilitate the implementation of an effective public affairs strategy
• respond to government consultations and support akt’s advocacy work
• lead on the organisation of roundtables, briefings, receptions and panel discussions and other events to raise the profile, improve the reputation and increase the influence of akt among policy makers and stakeholders
• collate and analyse data collected from other teams in the organisation about their specific streams of work and use for akt’s campaigns and policy work
• produce written reports on social policy issues relating to our work in communities, to be shared with the wider staff team, board, supporters and decision-makers

EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:
• A keen interest in public affairs and LGBTQ+ rights
• Experience of writing policy reports and briefings
• Experience of administration and events planning and delivery
• An excellent communicator ( written and oral communication)
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to juggle a high and complex workload
• Ability to plan and execute activities without close supervision and work on initiative as well as in a team
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail and excellent proof-reading skills

DESIRABLE:
• Demonstrable experience of working within a public affairs environment
• Demonstrable experience working in research
• Demonstrable experience working in or with the LGBT and/or housing and homelessness sector
