Job Details

CND is seeking to recruit a new General Secretary, to facilitate our core message that all nuclear weapons are morally and practically indefensible and therefore should be abolished.

The General Secretary is essential to the effective functioning of CND, and co-ordinates and oversees the campaign’s work, in consultation with CND’s elected leadership. The General Secretary is responsible for the management of CND’s staff team, together with the co-ordination and oversight of our campaigning, membership, fundraising, and peace education work, as well as our interaction with the wider movement, civil society and political processes.

Not only will the successful candidate be committed to CND’s aims and objectives, they will have comprehensive knowledge of CND’s campaign areas, a full understanding of the political context in which we operate, and the ability to think strategically, with a proven record of success. They will have staff management and events organisation experience as well as being a skilled public speaker with proven media expertise.

CND campaigns non-violently to achieve nuclear disarmament in Britain and internationally. With the Doomsday Clock at just 100 seconds to midnight, now is a crucial time for CND. As the danger of nuclear war increases, CND is stepping up its work for peace and disarmament.

The role is conveniently based at our office on Holloway Road in north London. The hours are 35 per week and the position is permanent, subject to a 3-month probationary period. The salary is £44,020 per annum (subject to an annual review) and the successful candidate will be entitled to 28 days of holiday and a contributory pension scheme.
