Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant/Secretary

Working For: Paul Bristow MP (Peterborough)

Location: London

Salary: £24,000-£29,000

Length of Contract:

Job Details

Paul Bristow MP is seeking an unflappable assistant for his Westminster office.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Managing incoming emails, calls, invitations and enquiries
  • Processing responses to standard correspondence
  • Managing all Westminster and constituency diary commitments
  • Handling particular issues, including drafting letters
  • Organising events, visits and room bookings
  • Providing support to APPGs and other groups as required
  • Supervising interns as and when required

We need someone capable, diligent and organised, with a high standard of written English. You should be comfortable talking to anyone from a CEO to an asylum seeker, handling each with the same efficiency and courtesy.

Besides Paul, you would be working with his two other Westminster-based staff. The role would suit someone with previous experience of a Parliamentary office, although this is not requirement. We will favour ability over experience.

Sympathy with the values of the Conservative Party is essential.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Closing Date: 23 February 2020

Interview/Start Dates

Please indicate when you would be available to start in your covering letter. The ability to start sooner would be an advantage, but we will consider all candidates equally.

Interviews will be arranged on a rolling basis and we may appoint before the closing date.

Application Details

Please send your CV and a one-page covering letter (preferably honest, or at least free from job-seeking cliché) to peter.graham@parliament.uk
