The MP is looking for a part-time Senior Communication Officer
(24 hours a week) to join her friendly, professional and hardworking team. This is a fixed-term contract based in both Parliament and in Catford. You will be responsible for writing articles, producing briefings and web material. You should have a track record of problem solving and developing creative communications solutions. This role requires a strong political acumen. You will own the digital channels and work to enhance and extend their relevance and reach. You will identify proactively media opportunities and ensure MP’s interests and concerns are represented in the relevant debates. You will also need to be experienced in managing issues/crisis communication to protect and enhance brand reputation and raise the MP’s profile. You are able to think creatively and innovatively. Knowledge of the local constituency is a bonus. You would demonstrate a commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party. If you are a team player and you are highly motivated you will fit well in the team.

Key Tasks:
• Manage projects
• Manage the MP’s media outlets - website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc
• Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required
• Prepare media briefings – produce high quality, well written and accurate communications content
• Excellent media management skills with a strong current affairs knowledge
• Publicise the MP’s parliamentary work on social media
• Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of MP as appropriate
• Manage and progress portfolio of casework appropriately
• Establish a social media presence in the constituency and publicise surgeries etc
• Follow up on social media queries and comments
• Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
• Research local, regional or national issues to support the MP’s work
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
• Attend surgeries, tribunals and meetings as appropriate
• Develop knowledge in specialist areas
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act

Essential Skills:
• Strong analytical skills (evaluate and interpret data to ensure MP is accurately informed on key issues and is aware of trends)
• To be able to deliver clear and effective messages
• An ability to create and deliver effective sound bites
• Proactive and re-active communications with all media
• Post graduate or equivalent
• Project management
• IT

Desirable Skills:
• Knowledge of caseworker.mp
• Driving Licence
• Photography and film knowledge in practice

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
