You will work collaboratively in the Policy Team to ensure the Bank operates effectively as a delivery arm of Government, which in turn will mean that it is well placed to play a leading role in the formation of policies that directly impact the provision of finance to SMEs.

The Policy team works across all areas of the Bank on a variety of issues with its core role to ensure that the Bank operates effectively as a part of Government, whilst maintaining its operational independence. This includes advising Government and Ministers on access to finance issues and ensuring that the Bank is well placed to engage with the Government’s wider policy objectives; whilst also maintaining stakeholder relationships across Whitehall and participating in national and international fora on SME access to finance issues.

You will lead on key areas of policy development and governance for the British Business Bank, working closely with the Bank’s Product, Strategy, Market Analysis, and Communications teams and other Government Departments to drive projects forward.

You will further develop the Bank’s policy function to ensure that it is a high profile and respected voice across Whitehall and externally and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders – particularly on Whitehall – by communicating openly and effectively based on the Bank’s knowledge and expertise.

You will have experience in dealing with, and working in Government, including an understanding of how Government departments operate. Able to form partnerships and common approaches, where appropriate.

This is a senior manager position which requires well established policy-making skills (e.g. at Civil Service Grade 6 or high-performing Grade 7). You should be ready and able to apply these skills in a technically complex field.
