What Works for Children’s Social Care are recruiting a Director of Policy who will ensure that our findings and research have impact within government at a local and national level. You will also ensure that we continue to work with other charities, including other members of the What Works Network, to promote evidence based policy in a way that helps us to achieve the best possible outcomes for young people and their families.

The Role
• Ensure that policymakers in government and local authorities are aware of and understand how the evidence base in children’s social care can improve outcomes
• Knowledge of current and forthcoming policy priorities and initiatives
• Serve as first point of contact for government departments, and arms-reach bodies, such as Ofsted
• Ensure that our research is produced and presented in a way that makes it useful and accessible to policymakers at local and national level
• Develop and maintain a network of high-level contacts in government, local authorities, policy, What Works, advisory and practitioner organisations
• Represent WWCSC at relevant conferences and events, and in meetings with senior civil servants

The Person
• Experience of in national or local government, and/or in an organisations working closely with these bodies to produce and promote evidence
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audience, and make a clear and persuasive case for use of robust evidence in policy
• Extensive knowledge of the national and local policy making environment
• An existing network of senior civil servants
• Existing networks in local authority leadership, third sector, or private sector advisory community
