About us

The Local Government Association (LGA) speaks with one voice on behalf of local government in England and Wales. Made up of elected representatives from all the different political parties, we aim to set the political agenda and have our say in the national media on the issues that matter to council members.

The role

The LGA has a strong track record of leading the debate on devolution within England. We have consistently been at the forefront of developing the policy and driving the political narrative to advance the case for devolution across the country. As we continue to push forward with the agenda for public service reform we are now working at the leading edge to support councils to secure and deliver their ambitions for devolution.

We are looking for a capable all-rounder, an individual comfortable with cross-cutting policy development in a complex and fast moving environment who is also able make a direct contribution to our growing support and improvement offer to councils in devolved areas.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team and closely with colleagues in media and public affairs to help support, promote and improve local government across a range of projects.

The requirements

You will have the knowledge, experience and credibility to engage with government and organisations from across the public, private and voluntary sectors. You will be able to take a strategic, forward-looking approach and will have the political awareness to contribute to the development of effective relationships with the LGA’s political groups as well as with external partners and national government.

The person we offer this post to will be an excellent communicator, problem solver and team player. You will have experience using a range of communication tools, including social media, in a politically sensitive environment. Your ability to grasp issues quickly will make you stand out.

As a Disability Confident Leader, the LGA values diversity and encourages applications from all sections of the community
