Job Details

RUSI welcomes applicants for a part time Research Assistant supporting its Proliferation and Nuclear Policy (PNP) programme, for 2 days per week. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to gain experience at a leading think tank and embark on a career in defence and security policy.

The role is roughly 50% administration and 50% research, although this balance will vary from month to month. The Research Assistant will support RUSI’s Proliferation and Nuclear Policy team by helping to deliver the UK Project On Nuclear Issues (UK PONI), assisting with research activities and providing general team support, such as taking notes during RUSI events and providing those notes in a timely and accessible manner.

The Research Assistant will also conduct research in support of PNP Research Fellows and Research Analysts on nuclear deterrence, verification, arms control and/or counter-proliferation finance, depending upon the development of extant and future research projects. As such, the Research Assistant will be expected to possess qualitative research skills.

The Research Assistant will be employed on a part-time six months fixed term contract, requiring a commitment of 15 hours per week. It is expected that the contract will run from 15 June 2020 until 15 December 2020. The days worked each week will be agreed between the successful candidate and their line manager
