Caroline Ansell, Member of Parliament for Eastbourne & Willingdon, is looking to appoint a Parliamentary Assistant to join her Westminster office, working alongside a dedicated constituency team based in sunny Eastbourne.
 
The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator with strong IT, administrative and organisational skills. They will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the key issues concerning people in Eastbourne & Willingdon and an understanding of the town and area. Previous political experience is essential, and previous experience in Westminster, is highly desirable. Ideally, we are looking to appoint for July.
 
Main Duties include:
  •  Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc
  •  Accompany the MP to meetings and follow up on agreed actions as appropriate
  •  Diary Management
  •  Develop and maintain current knowledge of bills, Early Day Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc and how they relate to the MP’s constituency
  •  Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
  •  Ensure the MP is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House
  •  Monitor media coverage and brief the Member on relevant issues
  •  Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues
  • Progress casework as required
  • Provide generalist admin support
  • Undertake research in support of the MP’s work

*Although this is a Westminster-based appointment, but Government guidelines mean parliamentary staff work remotely until further notice. Occasion travel to the constituency will be required.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
