Job Title: Communication Manager

Working For: Institute of New Economic Thinking (University of Oxford)

Location: Oxford

Salary: £32,817 - £40,322 p.a.

Job Details

The Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School (INET Oxford) is seeking an experienced strategic communications professional to develop and lead its outreach and strategic communications programme, aimed at improving the spread and impact of new economic ideas, and to inform more effective policies and practices.

This is a new role that has been created to enable the Institute to have a greater impact and profile from its significant output of research content. The Communications Manager will oversee all aspects of communications for INET Oxford; will work closely with the Institute’s Executive Director, the Programme Directors, Centre Manager, and members of the research teams; and will also be a member of the INET Oxford Management Committee.

Institute research topics include economic inequality, climate change, economic growth and innovation, financial system stability, the purpose and moral foundations of the economy and currently extensive research on the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

A key aspect of the role will be to “translate” INET Oxford research, in close collaboration with the Institute's academics, into clear and compelling content that can engage a variety of non-academic audiences. Creating this engaging output will include helping to generate and edit press releases, op-eds, long-form media pieces, policymaker briefings, speeches, podcasts, blog posts, funder reports and proposals, and content for the INET Oxford website. The successful candidate will also develop a strategy for and execute the dissemination of content by developing relationships with relevant journalists and media outlets, external academics, policymakers, thought leaders, civil society groups, business leaders, and philanthropic funders.

The post is 2 years fixed term. We welcome applications from candidates who are seeking flexible work arrangements.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement, writing sample and CV as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 3rd July 2020. Candidates selected for interview will be asked to undertake a short written exercise as part of the interview process.
