Job Details

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), the UK’s leading progressive think tank, is looking to recruit a Head of the Centre for Economic Justice.

The Centre for Economic Justice was launched in 2019 to build on the work of the Commission on Economic Justice, which presented a blueprint for a new, fairer and more prosperous economy in September 2018, and which has had a marked impact on the economic debate. The Centre for Economic Justice was established as a flagship programme to both broaden and deepen the Commission’s analysis and proposals.

The Head of the Centre for Economic Justice will be responsible for designing, leading and managing the Centre’s significant programme of research. They will be expected to represent the Centre at the highest levels of government, politics, business, academia, the voluntary sector and the media, and will play a crucial role in developing and managing strategic relationships. This will include designing and delivering a fundraising strategy for the Centre, with the support of the Executive Director.

If you are a creative, strategic economist looking to make the case and craft policy for a prosperous and just economy this is an ideal role for you. You will combine intellectual flair, innovative thinking and political knowledge with the ability to manage and oversee a wide-ranging agenda. You will have excellent project, budget and people management skills; you may have gained these in the private, public or voluntary sectors.

This will be a vital role at IPPR over the coming years. The Covid-19 pandemic has made more urgent, and more possible, an alternative economic strategy for the UK. There has rarely been a more imperative need for IPPR’s mission: to improve public policy in the present, and to lay the foundations for a more progressive future.

IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional experience. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide.

As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant to fill the post. All options can be discussed at interview stage.

Closing Date: 5 July 2020

Interview/Start Dates

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is midnight, Sunday 5 July 2020. Interviews will be held w/c 13 July 2020
