Job Details

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), the UK’s leading progressive think tank, is looking to recruit a Deputy Head of the Environmental Justice Commission (EJC) at IPPR. The EJC was launched in May 2019 to develop the ideas and policies to bring about a rapid green transition that is fair and just.

The Deputy Head of the Environmental Justice Commission will work closely with the Head of the Commission to help deliver the strategic goals, priorities and work programme of the commission. A key part of the role will entail the successful development, funding, management, delivery and dissemination of a number of research projects within the commission, ensuring all projects are completed on time, to budget and to a high standard. Oversight and input to the commission’s deliberative democracy events will also form a part of this role.

If you are a dynamic and creative individual, who is committed to developing a plan of action that integrates policy to address the climate and environmental emergency and to deliver economic and social justice, this is your ideal role. Central to the EJC’s ethos is putting people at the centre of its work both through the way policy is being developed (through deliberative democracy events) and the kind of policies advanced.

You will combine intellectual flair, innovative thinking and political knowledge with the ability to deliver high-quality and impactful work. You will have excellent project, budget and people management skills; you may have gained these in the private, public or voluntary sectors.

This will be a vital role at IPPR over the coming year to support the Head of the Commission in the delivery of a flagship programme for IPPR.

IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional experience. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide

This role is being advertised on a fixed term basis but there may be an opportunity for it to convert into a permanent position depending on circumstances.
