David Simmonds is seeking an Employed Intern and a part-time Constituency Assistant. The successful applicants will join a close-knit team and the positions will be paid in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Employed Intern

This job would be ideal for a recent graduate looking for their first role in Westminster. Please note: the successful applicant will be employed on a six-month fixed term contract.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting in research; analysing briefings and summarising policy advice;
• Assisting with arranging meetings and events; including venue bookings;
• Greeting visitors and attending meetings as part of training;
• Helping the team in the Westminster Office, providing basic administrative support;
• Learning how to manage casework and drafting responses;
• Handling enquiries from constituents.

Required skills:

• An understanding of politics and the role of an MP;
• Highly organised with consideration for confidentiality, in compliance with GDPR;
• Excellent communication and attention to detail;
• Ability to take on information quickly;
• Sympathetic to the values of the Conservative Party.

Constituency Assistant (2.5 days per week or equivalent).

This role will initially be working from home and will transition to David’s constituency office in Pinner, which will hopefully open in September. An element of flexible working will remain an option.

The role would suit someone with previous experience in an office environment who now seeks flexibility in their hours. Previous employment working for an MP is not essential.

Responsibilities:

• Dealing with enquiries from constituents;
• Office support, file and data management, mail handling;
• Assisting with constituency-based projects;
• Communicating aspects of David’s work to relevant audiences;
• Arranging meetings or follow-up actions with constituents, local councillors, businesses, voluntary groups, and other organisations.

Required skills:

• Highly organised with consideration for confidentiality, in compliance with GDPR;
• Good IT skills;
• Good telephone manner;
• An ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines;
• Awareness of current affairs;
• Sympathetic to the values of the Conservative Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
