The Senior Executive Officer is a key role within the South Ribble team. It’s focus is on community outreach and liaison with the myriad of groups within the South Ribble community. It’s easy to forget that 99% of constituents never contact their MP with a problem. This role focuses on them and ensures they feel they have heard from their local MP, understand what work is being undertaken on their behalf and can access their MP on a regular basis. The tools to achieve this include; proactive press engagement, social media, printed literature such as reports, letters, emails and events and visits. It suits a team player with strong interpersonal skills, good judgement and excellent written communication.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • MP Diary management
  • Constituency events & visits
  • Organising surgeries and drop ins away from the constituency office across a range of locations
  • Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries
  • Organising door knocking session for the MP to keep in touch
  • Supporting the MP in attending events etc. occasionally on weekends
  • Liaise with groups/personnel in the constituency, and the general public on the Member’s behalf as necessary
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
  • Responding to enquiries by telephone and e mail, passing on queries to other team members/MP as appropriate
  • Proactive and re-active communications with all media
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party political matters)
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
  • Set up and manage MP website ensuring a range of content is regularly updated and relevant
  • Draft responses to constituents & publish up to date responses on MP website to mass national campaigns. Managing email correspondence with constituents to same
  • Establish a social media presence in the constituency and publicise surgeries etc
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Research local, regional or national issues to support the MPs' work
  • Undertake research, usually from readily available sources, on straightforward subjects
  • Provide briefings for the MP
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with GDPR

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
